The day after the wedding

Some things I've learned from this long road to making my first wedding cake:

Headlamps are your friend when doing detail work. Thankfully, we have Petzl headlamps.

You can never plan too far in advance. Doing the proper research and making a game plan are essential. Here's some of my resource material.

Also, there is no better teacher than experience (and practice).

People are willing to help so long as you ask. I owe thanks to all the people who gave me pointers and suggestions, ate my test cakes, helped me get supplies, Quan for helping me secure a space to be able to put the cake together, and especially to my husband for supporting this crazy project while he's doing a full-time university course load this summer.

It may be a lot of work, you may have to reorganize parts of your life to do it, and you may have some sleepless nights, but in the end, it's all worth it when you make something with love for people who matter a lot to you.

  1. Let me first just say thanks for all your hard work. I've looked at that cake over and over again, and every single time, I fall in love with it as though I am seeing it for the first time. We had a lot of delicious cake at the wedding, but yours outshone all of them. It was the most delicious, beautiful, wonderful cake I've ever eaten, made all the more better because a beautiful, wonderful girl made it with such love and attention to detail. You rawk! love melly
